The South African National Bioinformatics Institute has Two Postdoctoral Positions Available for Highly Motivated Researchers.

Post Doctoral Position in Functional Genomics.

A US Department of Energy Postdoctoral research position is available at SANBI to support the development of a novel method for functional assignment using structural data and statistical analyses.

The successful candidate will be knowledgeable of protein structural features, motifs, families, and their comparison, in addition to genetic sequence analysis, and the currently available sequence databases. Programming skills are essential, experience in: Perl, C, Fortran, HTML/CGI, and Unix beneficial.

Post Doctoral Position in Genome Variation.

A National Innovation Fund post is available to develop a system for analysis of variation of expressed human genes. Particular interest lies in the areas of relevance to South African populations. The study will be performed in phases. (1) Further development of in silico screening for coding sequence tag polymorphisms. (2) Development of a dataset of variant positions in disease candidate genes. (3) Integration with an analysis of variation of specific loci within South African populations. Demonstrated computer literacy, An ability to drive the project independently, an understanding of population genetics and/or the analysis of variation, and experience in sequence analysis and software development are required.

Candidates are requested to submit a full CV and contact information for two referees. to: Winston Hide, winhide@sanbi.ac.za, SANBI, University of the Western Cape, Private bag X17, Bellville 7535, South Africa.
